If you have admired all the wool and the kits at The Noble Quilter but have been hesitant to try it – here is your chance.  June is offering a class this Sunday, November 10 from Noon to 4 PM.

Just Picked by Primitive Gatherings

Just Picked by Primitive Gatherings

June will teach you how to cut, the needed wool applique techniques and embroidery stitches to complete this pleasing table runner.  All the skills you learn will transfer to any wool project.  If you have seen any of the wool projects at The Noble Quilter you will understand the quality of June’s work which is what she will teach you.

Already proficient at working with wool?  Then we have supplies for you.

The Quilts of Valor group will be meeting Saturday, November 16 at TNQ.  They will continue to meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  Go to the QOV website for the history of the organization and how it works and serves our wounded warriors.  It is truly a worthy cause.  If you can’t join in on Saturday, you can still create your own QOV quilt.  TNQ has several fabric options, here is one appropriate line:

This is a unique club in which Doris will actually be teaching some quilting history and anecdotal stories about the quilting of our foremothers who helped to settle this land.  The quilts are small and doable and can be used for many purposes around your home. Just a note, these patterns are only available to club members.  Still time to sign up and enjoy this club.

Now lets talk about a Day Retreat.  Doris is offering this on Saturday, November 9, from 10 AM until 9 PM.

Happy Go Lucky from Simple Charms by Kim Diehl.

Happy Go Lucky is a perfect quilt for a cozy gift to yourself or someone else.  Just think how much you can get done with a whole day dedicated to sewing.  Not only that, but you get the added benefit of Doris’s expertise and the comraderie of other quilters.  Come comfortable with your machine and basic quilting supplies and enjoy the weather (no matter what it is) from a scenic classroom that is well-lit from outside during the day and inside during the evening.

Doris has been one busy lady.  She has prepared a class syllabus for the clubs and the day retreat and has personally completed each of the quilts pictured.  She loves to see people be able to successfully enjoy this craft.

Just A Lot Of Things To Talk About

TNQ Harvest Sampler Quilt

TNQ Harvest Sampler Quilt

There is today and tomorrow to complete the Harvest Sampler Shop Hop.  TNQ’s version of the quilt is hanging in the shop in the classroom area.  It is beautiful.  The scalloped border adds to its overall beauty and interest.  The tool for the scalloped border and the finishing kits are available at the shop at the end of the shop hop.  You can come in to pick it up or call have it mailed to you.  Of course,  if you purchase the finishing kit from TNQ  and have questions about the border, there is advice and tips available to you.

Block #1 of The Noble Quilter Original BOM

Block #1 of The Noble Quilter Original BOM

If you were planning to start The Noble Quilter’s original BOM, but couldn’t make it last month or if you were just undecided, let this 1st block inspire you.  The block uses the Rapid Fire LeMoyne Star ruler by Deb Tucker of 180 Studios.  There is a kit available but feel free to complete this in the fabric of your choice – it would be beautiful in batiks also (my opinion).

Original TNQ BOM

This is a picture of the entire quilt.  You will learn to use a variety of tools to create this gem.  Margie will be teaching this on Thursday, November 14 from 10 AM until Noon.  It is not too late to get started, come in or call to sign up.

Hampton Ridge BOM by Red Crinoline Quilts

This is another new BOM.  Hampton Ridge will be taught by Doris starting on Thursday, November 21 from 10 AM until Noon or on Saturday, November 23 from 10 AM until Noon.  Wow!  Doris is making it easy to be a part of this BOM.  The beginning quilt blocks are at The Noble Quilter to intrigue you.  This BOM hasn’t started yet so get yourself signed up and enjoy.

If you have seen this quilt and wish you had started it – no worries.  The Noble Quilter will help you get started and you will be provided with all the monthly blocks.  Don’t let a  late start keep you from doing something you would enjoy.  It does continue on Wednesday, November 6 from 6 PM until 7 PM and Thursday, November 14 from Noon until 1 PM

Coming up in 1 week on Saturday, October 26 from 10 Am until Noon is the TNQ Pre-Christmas Open House!!!

Blueberry Backroads

Blueberry Backroads

It is never too early to start those Christmas gifts or at least to get some ideas.  There will be 8 demonstrations happening between 10 AM and Noon.  There will be kits and patterns and accessories to go with the demos.  Sarah from Blueberry Backroads , Lorrie from Beancounter Quilts and staff members Lori, Jackie, Margie, Cathy, Yvonne and me (Jan) will be showing or teaching how to do projects that will inspire you to go home and get “busy” with those gifts (and maybe some of them will be for yourself).  Of course, there will be treats too, who quilts without the “treat or snack” factor.  Come and join us for the fun and the ideas (I personally guarantee laughter).

Looking Forward to Seeing You Soon,

Classes With Margie

Margie is always a bright smiling face at The Noble Quilter.  She loves to learn how to use new products and that includes tools.  She has created a table topper pattern called Margie’s Table Topper using the Studio 180′s Rapid Fire LeMoyne Star ruler by Deb Tucker.

Margie's Table Topper in Fall Fabrics

Margie’s Table Topper in Fall Fabrics

The fall Table Topper is available as a kit at The Noble Quilter and, of course, there is a pattern to go with it.

Once Margie became an expert at the Rapid Fire LeMoyne Star tool, she and Angie became very creative and designed an original pattern using several different tools including the LeMoyne Star tool.

Original TNQ BOM

Original TNQ BOM

I personally saw the level of work that went into creating this original BOM.  The detail given to writing the instructions and the level of accuracy given to each block.  How fun and exciting to complete this beauty over the course of 12 months.  It starts this Thursday, October 10, so get right on it and sign up.  It will go from 10 AM until Noon.  Another great perk is that you may bring your sewing machine and stay and sew while the instruction is fresh in your mind.  The kit that will be offered is in Kansas Troubles but you are certainly free to choose whatever colors and type of fabric suits you.  If you cannot participate this week, no worries, sign up to join in the creative fun for next month.

Creative Borders and Binding

Creative Borders and Binding

This is such a fun idea created by Margie.  You will be able to complete any quilt and make it your very own design.

There is a lot going on in October at The Noble Quilter.  Remember the Pre-Christmas Open House on Saturday, October 26, from 10 AM until 2 PM.  There will be several staff and local designers demonstrating gift ideas.  It is always fun to gather around friends, food and ideas that you can take home with you.

There is also an opportunity to join Terri Atkinson on Monday, October 28th from 10 AM until 3 PM for a new pattern test sew.  This costs $5.00 and focuses on machine quilting.  Contact the shop to sign up.

Thought for Today:  Learning is a process that should never end.  So go for it – no matter what is challenging your skills.

Let’s Talk About Embroidery——

Did you know – Embroidery dates back more than 3000 years B.C.?  It is considered one of the earliest art forms and it was practiced by only the most skilled of men.  It required upwards of a 10 year apprenticeship to be accepted into an embroidery practice.  It is also a skill that had evolved simultaneously in all cultures for artwork and decoration on clothing.  Different cultures have created stitches unique to them and some of them do require extraordinary skill even today.

There is an ebook entitled The Development of Embroidery in America – Project Gutenberg that might interest you.  It has fascinating historical points that I certainly never thought of before.  It makes one kind of proud to participate in such an ageless craft.

Embroidery is making a “come back” with lots of fun projects from the very small -

It is “GO” Time ,Quilters!!

There is so much that is exciting to tell you about.  First we will start with “Save the Dates” so get your day planners ready whether they are electronic, paper or the calendar on the kitchen cupboard.

Harvest Sampler Shop Hop

The Harvest Sampler Shop Hop begins Thursday, October 10th and continues thru Sunday, October 20th.  There are 6 shops included in this hop.  The Noble Quilter has a bus for Saturday, October 12th leaving from the shop for only $39.00 round trip.  I personally think that is the best way to hop – let someone else do the driving and the navigating.  Eliminates the need for gallons of coffee to stay alert and gives you rest between shops (even a little snooze, if needed).  Enjoy friends and scenery with no stress.  Call the shop to reserve your seat  763-633-4669.

PRE-CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE Saturday, October 26 from 10 Am until 2 PM.  There will be 7 different mini schoolhouses that will help with ideas to make wonderful Christmas gifts.  There will also be in-store specials and of course, treats.  Don’t miss this one – it promises to be a fun and rewarding day.

If you haven’t been in the shop in the last 2 days or the last 2 weeks, you have missed out on all the new fabrics.  I promise I kept my “drooling” to a minimum so as not to harm the fabric.  I absolutely adore flannel so—-

This is just the panel from this line of fabric.  The Noble Quilter has all the coordinating fabrics and they are wonderful.  If you love flannel as much as I do and love a silky feel, here it is all in one package.  Come in and touch and feel ( that is very stress relieving, you know).

Now to shift gears completely, but with the same enthusiasm here is——

Kimberly's Garden by Fresh Water Designs

Kimberly’s Garden by Fresh Water Designs

This is only a sampling of the entire line that is available at the shop.  Thirties fabric is so classic and so refreshing.  Just looking at it starts the creative juices flowing as there are so many possibilities.

The Newsletter will be released on Tuesday, September 17th.  Be sure to read it, there are several new classes and BOMs.

Sign up for the bus soon as space is limited.  Watch your email for the newsletter.  Come in and see and touch all the new fabric and of course, you are welcome to purchase also.  Be sure to check out our Pinterest Boards – there is a lot of good information and ideas gathered there for your use.  It can be accessed from the bottom of this page.  Phew!  Told you there was a lot and this is just a sampling of all that will be offered.

Thought for the Day:  Time is a far more precious commodity than money; give your time where it is needed most.

Ready to meet your quilting needs,

Quilts of Valor

This Saturday, September 7, is Quilts of Valor Sew-In Day.  The hours are from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  There is still space available to join in this important sew-in.  Please bring your sewing machine and basic quilting supplies along with 1 yard of red, white, or blue fabric.  Sewing for a cause is a beautiful thing.  Contact the shop at 763-633-4669 to save your space.

QOV Foundation (Quilts of Valor) was created by Catherine Roberts in her sewing room.  She was inspired by her own son’s return from war.  The goal is to give a tangible ” Thank You” to our wounded warriors and veterans.  We who live in freedom have much to be grateful for.  For us who sew, what a wonderful way to express our gratitude.  Of course, if you cannot join us on Saturday, Quilts of Valor can be made at any time.  Just remember the sacrifices made and create one that will comfort a service member.

Quilting Season is Nearly Upon Us

Can you believe that our Minnesota summer is about over?  Despite the fact that it is particularly steamy out today, fall is near.  Some schools are back in session, fall sports have begun their seasons at the high school and college level and professional sports are about to launch their seasons. The upside is that quilting becomes more fun (hard to work on a quilt at 90+ degrees) and our thoughts turn to those cozy Civil War and Kansas Trouble colors and, of course, those comfy flannels.  Well, here is good news, The Noble Quilter has all this ready and waiting for you.  New projects, new tools, new techniques – all waiting at the shop for YOU.

Take a look at what you can do with a “Squedge”

Table Topper & Table Runner with a Squedge

Jackie will teach you the concept of picking colors for this project and how to use the tool of course.  It is a 2 day class, but just look at the result.  How stunning and intricate looking.  We are assured, however, that once you learn the technique, it is really quite easy.

How about getting to create a stunning quilt from a book by Judy Martin that isn’t even releashed yet.  Talk about getting to be the “first on the block” with a new design.  Doris will teach the cutting and piecing techniques to create this inspiring quilt.

There is a Day Retreat coming on September 14.  There are still a few spots left to learn to make the Saltbox Sampler by Kim Diehl and Laurie Baker.  If you have never taken a class at The Noble Quilter, you will be pleasantly surprised by the natural lighting, the view and the fact that you don’t feel disconnected from the outdoors.  It is a wonderful place to learn and socialize.

This retreat will be lead by Doris.  Doesn’t this sampler just speak of the comforts of home?

Don’t forget about the usual clubs and sew-in days and evenings.  Return to the webpage for the details for classes and clubs.

Thought For the Day:  Quilting is a creative & expressive process not controlled by the quilt “police”.

Minnesota Shop Hop Adventures

The Shop Hop is officially over.  The numbers of men and women who participated is so exciting.  It is fun while working in the shop to meet people you would probably never meet otherwise.  Their stories are interesting and it is also fun to know what a large, diversified and “just plain nice” community we belong to as quilters.

I must say that the Original Minnesota Rock Heads were the most unique visitors.

Original Minnesota Rock Heads

Original Minnesota Rock Heads

Clarence the Moose, Stella, Gladys, Cecelia and Gertrude came (I hope I have their names in the correct order).  They were accompanied by a mother/daughter/granddaughter team.  Pam Ray is the artist from the southwestern corner of MN.  These are “one of a kind” felted wool dolls which are actually created around a rock, hence the name Rock Heads.  Each one has a personality of its own and they have many adventures which can be followed on their Facebook page (type in Original Minnesota Rock Heads).  They will be learning to sew soon as they purchased kits from the shops they visited.  We understand Gertrude’s permanent home is in Georgia and she is probably on her way there now.  Many of these dolls are custom made to have the personality the purchaser wants and are used for many purposes such as assisting with a grieving process and sometimes just for fun.

Another young lady by the name of Kris visited the shop.  She is actually from Champlin but she and her friends were busy doing outstate MN.  By the time she reached The Noble Quilter she had traveled 1300 miles.  That really isn’t the amazing thing – after a day of shop hopping they returned to her cabin and sewed. That requires energy.  Three cheers for you ladies.

We had ladies from Lancaster, a town in northwestern MN, I had never heard of (get to learn a little geography also).  They drove to the Lower Mid Minnesota Section for the Glamping patterns.  Great job to those who created this pattern, it was a hit.  We also met a young lady from Owatonna, who chose to complete our section because of Glamping.

The gentleman who made the most “brownie points” is the one who wanted to go on a motorcycle trip.  His wife wanted to participate in the shop hop and he suggested they combine the two.  He received many pats on the back from fellow shop hoppers.  I also enjoyed the men who came in looking for fabric expecting their quilting wives to create something for them.  Most of them were very focused and very proud of their wives skills.  Some of the men were quilters themselves.

The stories could go on and include the people waiting at the door long before opening time, the people from Nebraska and other states who chose to explore MN via the shop hop.  What a great time.

August is about over and, of course, that means settling back into our routines here in MN.  There are 2 new Beginner Classes starting in September.

Loni & Lori with completed Beginner Quilts

Loni & Lori with completed Beginner Quilts

Doris will be teaching both classes.  First one starts Sunday, September 8 and continues on the 15th & 22nd from 12-5.  The second will be offered on Wednesdays starting September 11, and continuing on the 18th, 25th and October 2nd from 12-5.  The skills taught will transfer to a majority of patterns available to quilters.  Plus – it is fun and rewarding to learn new skills.

There are a lot of other classes coming in September and Angie is busy planning October – December.  Check out the newsletter or simply come into the shop and see the samples to decide which class is the most interesting to you.

Just a note about Pinterest (which you access from this page) – we are striving to put a lot of useful information on our pinterest boards.  It has boards for quilting techniques along with ideas for quilting and other small sewing projects plus pictures of the many items carried by The Noble Quilter.  Take a look and enjoy.

Have an Awesome Day,

Jan & Angie

Kathy won the door prize of the indigo Perfect Palette at the 4th Birthday Party for The Noble Quilter.Kathy won the door prize of the indigo Perfect Palette quilt kit at the 4th Birthday Party for The Noble Quilter.

Joan was surprised to win the Perfect Palette kit as a doorprize at the celebration for being a Top Ten Quilt Shop selected by The Quilt Sampler.  Joan initially came to The Noble Quilter because it was a new shop in the area and she wanted to check it out.  She has since become a regular at the shop participating in several BOMs and retreats.  She states that she has made new friends through the shop with whom she does other activities (you know, that stuff we like to do such as shopping and going to lunch) along with quilting with them.

Kathy actually came into The Noble Quilter to purchase the indigo Perfect Palette as she had already purchased the watercolor version. She was certainly surprised to find out she had won it as a doorprize during the 4th Birthday Party celebration.  Kathy was so excited about the shop coming into the area that she was found peeking through the windows watching the progress of the construction of the shop.  She is now an active participant in classes and a regular at the monthly Saturday night sew-ins.  Kathy has a granddaughter who wants to visit the shop whenever she visits grandma – it is one of things that makes a grandma smile in her heart.  This dear lady also blesses Angie and the staff with fresh vegetables from her garden.  What a treat!

A big “Thank You” to Diane for the beautiful roses from Angie and the staff.  Even though the flowers were sent to Angie everyone working there or coming into shop get to enjoy their beauty.  The thoughtfulness put a really big smile on Angie’s face.

The Shop Hop is still happening until August 18.  There is still fabric and kits available for you.  Be sure to check out the upcoming classes also.  The Bucket Brigade by Atkinson designs will be taught by Cathy Johnson on Sunday, August 18.  Have you purchased a Perfect Palette kit already?  Then come to the Perfect Palette class taught by Angie on Saturday, August 24.  Even if you don’t have a kit now, they are available for class.  What a good way to actually get that kit made into a quilt.

See You Soon,

Jan & Angie
